If you are interested in growing or buying a camellia have a look at Camellia Guide.  This lists those camellias that are less susceptible or resistant to the fungal disease known as petal blight.   This affects the bloom only and causes the petals to  progressively go brown, and fall to the ground.   The early flowering camellias particularly the Sasanqua Species do not have petal blight, but some may develop it toward the end of their season.    

Given there is a world wide shortage of honey bees including in NZ the camellia list indicates those Camellias that are suitable for the bees.

It lists those camellias that are less susceptible or resistant to petal blight, a fungal disease which affects the blooms and causes the petals to progressively go brown, and fall to the ground.   

The early flowering camellia species, the sasanquas show no signs of petal blight, but some may do toward the end of their season.

There is a world wide shortage of honey bees including in New Zealand and those camellias that are suitable are indicated on the Guide.
