May/June

CHOOSING & PLANTING:

Try to choose a plant with a suitable growth habit to suit the position in which it is to be planted. Make sure that the size of the planting hole is quite a lot larger than the root ball and fill the hole with a good soil mix. A little slow release feriliser can be placed in the bottom of the hole before planting. Make sure of good drainage, if necessary raise the planting to help drainage.
Stake the plant and label.

SPRAYING:

Check for pests such as Scale - use summer oil plus Maldison.
Leaf roller caterpillar - spray with Thuricide, Orthene or similar insecticide.

GRAFTING:

Good stock plants are most essential for grafting. Choose scions (cuttings) that areready for grafting or that are available. Cover the grafted plant & keep out of sun.

AIR-LAYERING:

Check any air-layers done in December.
