Programme 2019 Gisborne East Coast Camellia Society

The Programme for this year is as follows.

Please mark these dates on your calendar now.

There may be some changes due to weather etc , but you will be advised as soon as possible.

If benching blooms please come at the earlier time noted on the programme.

Benching and naming takes longer than you think.

April 14:  AGM to be held at Pat Flockhart’s home 16 Graham Road.

                There will also be a minishow.  Sasanqua’s will be out and we all have these lovely early

                 bloomers in our garden so bring along some blooms.  There may even be a few small hybrids


                 Staging starts at 1.00pm. AGM 2.15pm.

                 After the AGM there will be a short talk on the care of certain variety of Orchids.

                 We are always looking for new committee members so please think about coming on board.

                 Please bring something for afternoon tea.

                 Jane Shanks has donated a raffle for this meeting.

May 19:   A garden visit. We will meet at 2 pm at 26 Ruth Street to look at Jeannette Boyd’s garden.

                  Jeannette has won the annual garden competition for the last two years and has some unusual

                  plantings that would be great to see. She also has a small plant nursery with plants for sale.

                  After the visit we will have afternoon tea at Robin Bennett’s home. Access to Robin’s home is

                  in Nelson Road up an unnamed road next to Sonrise School.

                  Please bring something for afternoon tea.

                  There will be a raffle.

 June 16:  Meeting at Kerry Smith’s home. Mini Show, staging starts at 1 pm.

                   Meeting 2.15 pm.

                  Guest speaker    Maggie Asplet. She will talk on the growing of Iris’s.

                  She may even have some for sale.

                  Please bring something for afternoon tea.

                  There will also be a raffle.

July 14:   Mid-winter luncheon at the Vines at 12.30pm.

                  There will be a raffle.

August 17/18th:     Local Show  

                   We rely on all members to enter in the show .Even if you only have 2 or 3 blooms it all helps 

                   to make a worthwhile show. Please ring Pat Flockhart for details    8686255.

August 23/25th : National Show and Convention   in Whanganui.


September 15: A garden visit to Carline Mills’s subtropical garden, Waerenga a hika

                    Please note the date may change.

                    We will have afternoon tea there. Please bring your own afternoon tea. Caroline may still

                    have plants for sale.

                    There will be a raffle.

October:  A visit to Cushla and Michael Murphy’s garden at Panikau Station .Date and details to be

                   given later. This may be a bus trip. We will have lunch there. Remember there will be a raffle.


November 24:   End of year luncheon. Details later. After lunch we will visit Hamish Cheetham,

                      509 Childers Road to view his roses and see his rose breeding seedlings.                        

 We look forward to your attendance.  Friends and visitors are always welcome.
